Flights

- Chambery
- Chambery at 89 miles (143 kms) is the closest airport. It is well served in the ski season from most regions of the UK. However due to its position at the end of the Lac du Bourget the airport can be more affected by bad weather than the alternatives so a last minute change of destination is more likely.
- Grenoble
- Grenoble is located half way between Lyon and Grenoble at a distance of 135 miles (217 kms). Direct flights are possible from most regions of the UK in the season. Of special interest to skiers from Cornwall and Devon are flights from Newquay and Plymouth.
- Lyon
- Lyon at 137 miles (220 kms) is a large, modern 'hub' airport. Although well served from the eastern side of the UK not many options are available for skiers from the west and south west.
- Geneva
- Geneva at 139 miles (224 kms) has excellent motorway links since the opening of the new motorway to Annecy in 2009. It is a major international airport so there are plenty of flights to choose from from all parts of the UK and ROI.
Rail
The nearest station is Bourg St Maurice a distance of 20 miles (32 kms). At weekend in the ski season and in the summer months there is a direct TGV service from Paris with a journey time of 4hrs 57mn. At other times you will need to change to a local train in Chambery. The bus and train stations are located together in Bourg and there are regular bus services to the local resorts with Cars Martin or see the 'Taxi & Transfer' section above for other options.
In the ski season Eurostar run two 'Ski Train' services a week from London and Ashford direct to Bourg. One leaves on Friday evening arriving early Saturday morning, the other on Saturday morning arriving early the same evening. If you live close to London this has to be the way to get to Tignes - no traffic jams and no airports!
The overnight sleeper service the 'Lunea' is a viable option on this route, leaving Paris at 11pm and arriving at Bourg the following morning around 7:50am.
The Snow Train overnight disco/sleeper from Paris is not running for the 2009/2010 season due to the recession.

For some routes we show an alternative using a few kilometers of N roads as well as the autoroute. This shortens the distance and cuts out the more congested autoroute sections. If you have time then do take a break and visit Annecy it is a lovely town and well worth exploring.
