Morzine - The Resort
Morzine Resort Map
Morzine is situated midway between Geneva and Mt Blanc. At an altitude of 1000m it has retained its traditional appearance and consists mainly of chalets spread through a river gorge surrounded by gentle wooded slopes and the summits of the Haut Chablais. Morzine shares its ski area with Les Gets and is part of the Portes du Soleil, a huge area which crosses the border into Switzerland. It is a family resort with its original charm and Savoyard way of life. Morzine is a year round destination which is renowned world wide for its excellent mountain biking.
The village is spread out but there is a good free bus service, including two electric buses, to persuade visitors not to use their cars. There is also the Balud Aulps bus which runs round the Aulps Valley costing 1€ per journey. Morzine is part of the Alpine Pearl programme with 16 other European holiday destinations working together to promote car free transport and respect of the mountain environment.
The main lifts are at Le Pleney on the south west edge of town or there is the Nyon cable car a few minutes drive up the valley. Across town is the Super Morzine lift which links the area with Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes Du Soleil.
