Les Contamines is part of the Evasion Mt Blanc ski area, which includes Megeve, Combloux, St Nicolas de Veroce, La Giettaz and St Gervais, with 445 km of pistes and lots of different terrain. On its own Les Contamines has 120 km of pistes with the top lift on the 2487 m Aguille Croche.
For beginners the nursery slopes are located on both sides of the valley at resort level but if the snow is not good enough low down there are also the Foyeres slopes at the mid station and the Signal slopes at the top of the gondolas. The Route Col Ruelle green run on the Hauteluce side is good to progress onto. Intermediates will find a good selection of blue and red runs through out the area, on the Hauteluce side it is possible to ski to Belleville at 1200 m on the Belleville red run. The Tierces red is worth getting to early in the morning when it is freshly groomed as it is south facing so gets the sun early. Experts can find steeper terrain off the Tierces and Veleray lifts and there is some very good off piste terrain, a guide is recommended.
Freestylers have a choice of two areas known as ‘x-zones’. There is one at resort level by the Loyers drag with 120m superpipe put in place for the Freestyle World Cup. Further up the hill on the Tierces piste is another ‘x-zone’, which has areas for various abilities, with ski and boarder cross and various jumps. By the Pierre Blanche lift is an area which is naturally shaped for riders and left ungroomed
Cross country skiers can use the Nordic Park, which has 26 km of trails, at the foot of the Domes de Miage. This includes the Nordic Chalet with changing rooms and waxing facilities, a flood lit track and new biathlon area. Les Contamines is used by the British team as a training base.
In addition to the skiing in Les Contamines you have easy access to Megeve via the St Gervais bubble and to Les Houches via the Tramway du Mont Blanc also in St Gervais. Free car parking is available for both the bubble and the tramway. Both are marked on the Interactive Map.
