View of Avoriaz ski area

Located at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, Avoriaz has gives easy access to 650 km of skiing. It has 150 km of its own pistes, these heading in all directions from the village, above and below. Avoriaz is a good area for skiers of all abilities.

The nursery slopes are situated right next to the village with a good network of easier runs to progress onto. There are plenty of blues and reds for intermediates with the rest of the Portes du Soleil offering a massive choice. Advanced skiers can try the Hauts Forts which has some good black runs and the world cup downhill. Off the Swiss side of Chavanette is the famous "Wall", a tough, mogulled black. There are four "snow-cross" runs, these are unpisted but avalanche controlled, a lot like the "Naturides" in Tignes. There is some good off piste available including powder bowls with drops and some good tree skiing. Off piste can be very dangerous in the wrong conditions and a guide is recommended.

Avoriaz is one of the top resorts for boarders and has been backing snowboarding since the beginning. There are four main snowparks. "Arare" for the pros , "La Chapelle" for beginners and intermediates, "Trashers" for kids and, new last season, was "The Stash" which was built in conjunction with Burton Snowboards. This caters for a mix of freestyle and freeride with wooden obstacles and hidden runs through the trees. "The Stash" had 30 more obstacles for the 08/09 season. There is a "Lil Stash" and "Burton Kids Parkway" so children can learn park riding basics. The Superpipe is 120m long and 6m high.

For crosscountry skiers there are 47 kms of trails around Avoriaz, Les Linderets, Montriond and Morzine.
